Pressure drop head losses calculations

  • The pressure drop or head losses are related to the velocity of the fluid: low speeds = low losses of pressure , and high speeds = high losses of pressure .

How to calculate friction pressure losses in pipes or duct .

How to calculate a Pressure drop in elements of network .

friction pressure losses in pipes or duct represent the energy loss due to friction of the fluid in a pipe of constant section. they are expressed in heights of fluid (in meters) and pascals

DH  is the friction pressure losses in pipes or duct in heights of fluid (in meters column of fluid Mcf or Mcw if water)

V  is the average speed flow meters in seconds

D is the diameter 's flow meters

L is the length of the flow meters

l is loss coefficient of friction (unitless number)

determining the coefficient of pressure loss from the flow regime

The equations used in software MECAFLUX for calculating loss of regular charges are:

  • Poiseuille laminar flow

  • Blasius turbulent flow in smooth

  • Colebrook can be is used in all cases

Friction pressure losses in pipes and ducts

To determine by calculations the energy loss, certain information is mandatory, to capture this information , use "the text box parameters"

It'll just press calculate. (if a mandatory parameter is missing a message "insufficient parameters "will appears)

The results of calculations displayed in the "zone of results" Software

  • pressure losses expressed in fluid height (in meters) and pascals .
  • section of the duct in m
  • the average speed fluid in ms
  • the maximum fluid velocity in ms
  • the coefficient of pressure loss coefficient (unitless k)
  • the type of flow
  • The equation used
  • the Reynolds number

The inventory of friction pressure loss and elements pressure drop, shows the calculated losses as a table representing a portion of your network.

You can save inventory of a network' s portion and use this section in graphical analysis to test and edit charts versus flowrate..

Pressure drop (head losses) in elements of network

The Pressure drop (head losses) in elements of network are pressure loss caused by the passage of fluid into obstacles such as valves, fittings, expansion, exit tank ... etc.. . expressed in pascals or meters of liquid column (m).

They are studied in tab "head losses", within the parameters you choose.

The Pressure drop (head losses) in elements of network

  • select an element of the network , in choosing a "category" and a "element"
  • Type the text in blue "fluid parameters and components"
  • click calculate

The results are given in meters column fluid and pascals.
