Frontal surface

 

The Frontal surface is the perpendicular projected surface according to the trajectory of the fluid ( the surface which the object presents at the fluid). Take a look at the drag force formula

Larger is the surface biger is the drag force .

Caution: for the calculation of the lift force  of the foils  tested in wind tunnels, the given values of Cl are about the surface projected on the ground.
